Introducing our 6th Deaf Dreamer: Phina!
Hello everyone - I have the best news to announce! Phina from Uganda has become our 6th Deaf Dreamer! Her background story is unique and proves her inner strength. So many miracles have fallen into place for this amazing woman. With the help of her supportive parents, she was able to start college last year (a rarity in Uganda!). However, during her first semester, her parents were murdered by armed robbers and her she had to pull out of school to fetch and sell water to meet

Building an Effective, Manageable, and (most importantly) Ethical Nonprofit Organization
I originally posted this on www.DestinyYarbro.com but I thought any of you curious about how and why I built The Deaf Dream in this way would appreciate the read. This morning a friend asked me for advice on starting a nonprofit. This question has come multiple times each year and I have finally decided it is time to stop writing individual emails and create a single post with what I've learned. That said, I will not pretend to be an expert on nonprofit organizations...in any

Introducing our 5th Deaf Dreamer from KENYA
Hello everyone! I am excited to announce that as of this morning we are sponsoring our 5th Deaf Dreamer! Patricia from KENYA is absolutely thrilled to go to university. She has worked hard to prepare herself for the rigors of school and has been persistent and determined in her efforts to find scholarship options. She has the support of her church congregation behind her! We are rooting on her dream to start a primary school for Deaf in Kenyan Sign Language. Congratulations,

We have our 4th Deaf Dreamer: Amuge from Uganda!
Hello everyone! Just this week I had the privilege to inform our newest Deaf Dreamer, Amuge, that she will be receiving our 2018 scholarship! Amuge is an amazing, smart, strong Ugandan woman who will be a wonderful example to her Deaf community! She is determined to start a nonprofit that helps a common issue in her part of the world (that inhibits getting needed support and resources): assuming deafness is a intellectual disability or mental illness. Here is a short video cl

As you joy in the Christmas season, please consider making a donation (even better, a small recu

Last week was a HUGE week for The Deaf Dream. We are absolutely THRILLED to announce that Jerry, our newest Deaf Dreamer, started university last week in Uganda! These are the people who grew up knowing that their disability is the end of their lives and there's nothing they can do, yet in actual sense, they have hidden talents but only mistaken by the local b
